Hi Everybody! I got to get out of school today at 1:00 because I had to go to the dentist. They put these rubber band things on my teeth and they hurt! And in about 2 weeks I have to get my braces on! :(

Sean, that sounds like the time I was at the ER 4 1/2 years ago when I was pregnant with Tristen and having some stomach problems. Ol' Tom Osborne was in there, and he insisted on talking Ryan & I's ear off, begging us to name our baby Tommie..... Maybe not begging, but he was there, and he gave me a special smile....

Better late then never, this morning I went down to the DMV to renew my driver's license. It was a good idea to do so, since it expired the day I turned 20. About 15 minutes after I arrived, another very special and famous individual stopped in. That's right, the head coach of The Nebraska Cornhusker football team, Mr. Frank Solich. He sat down right next to me and began to start a conversation about the season's opening victory game with me. I said to him, "Coach, I don't have time for small talk, I am just 'in and out' to get my license and get back to work." And with that I finished my examination, got my drivers license, and was out the door.
Well, that's not all true.... But he was there renewing his license, just like many other Nebraska drivers. Just thought I'd share that with you all.

I had my first day of class today! It went well. On Mondays and Wednesdays I go in at 8 and am out by 10:45. I have American History through 1877, and Beginning Algebra. Then tomorrow (and every following Tuesday and Thursday) I go in at 9:30 and get out at 12:15 back in at 1:15 and out again at 3:15 and have Western Humanities, Composition 2, and Introduction to Artistic Photo. Today went well, glad to be back. Need to raise that GPA a little from stupid Biology!

Erika
8/21/2001
Yesterday I met my teacher misis Jansen She is very nice. And I still have 2 more teachers to meet.

Lindsey
8/21/2001
Tristen-I want to go to Calyfornya too, but in January Olivia, my Mom, my Dad, and I are going to Florida for a week.

Lindsey
8/21/2001
Man, I started school on Monday, but I really like it. MOST of my teachers are pretty nice. OK, anyway, gotta go, Bye!

Karen
8/21/2001
Well, our summer is almost over -- Erika and Emily start school on Thursday. I return to preschool on Friday. We are enjoying our last days.

Gary
8/21/2001
Whew, I just stepped back inside after watching the wrecking crew begin to demolish my old building. Kinda sad to see it being turned into a heap of rubble. I had the idea that they should have waited until Saturday, and then blown it up as part of the half-time show... but nobody listened. Anyway, within the next day or two, the nearly century-old Bancroft Hall will just be a memory.

Tristen
8/21/2001
I want to go to Calyifornya. That is my favorite place.

Amanda
8/20/2001
I sold my car today. In essence, I doubled my money. Between what I made off of hail damage and then the sale of it, I made back the money I paid for it 200%. Not too shabby. Now I see how dealers make money. Now Tristen & I are stuck with Ryans truck until he gets home and we start looking for a new one. At least we got this one sold and the down payment for the next is sitting in savings, just waiting.....

Amanda
8/18/2001
Ryan left on Friday. Can't say where, and don't know for how long, but chances are it will be another 30-dayer. Tristen is doing great in daycare, and I start school in a week (the 27th). My car is sitting on the "lemon lot" (a lot here on base people sell used cars on) so hopefully it will get sold soon. As soon as Ryan gets back we will start looking for a bigger car. We are selling his first truck tomorrow (remember when we got the second white truck, the exact same truck only nicer in January? we kept the old one too) well, he finally has someone who wants it for $300, so it is gone! Not bad considering it is a junk truck, and I bought it for $400 3 1/2 years ago. Tristen and I cleaned it out tonight, I cant wait to get that eyesore out of here, or the "hill truck" as Tristen calls it (because it has sat up in a parking spot up the hill since February). Good luck in school and the job Linz, Livy and dad. When does everyone else start?????

Amanda
8/17/2001
Hey Sioux Citiers, take it as a hint: someone wants you out of that town!

Emily
8/17/2001
About 5:30 we were just getting ready to eat when the tornado sirens went off, we went downstairs and there were tornados all around us! A small town about 10 miles away from us had a tornado touch down, and they had A LOT of damage!!!!!
Gotta Go Bye

Happy Birthday Zach!! So does this mean you are an adult now? It's not all it's cracked up to be. Try to stay a kid for a while longer. Many Happy Returns!!

Happy Birthday Zach!!!

Emily
8/16/2001
Hi Everybody!!!
We are thinking of turning dad's train room in the basement into my room! Then we could put the computer stuff in my room. But if we do put my room in the basement I don't know how I would decorate it. It is a little bigger than my room is now, and it would be really easy to wallpaper. So if you have any suggestions PLEASE let me know.
Bye 8)

Emily
8/15/2001
Hi Everybody, I don't really have much to say, but no one has put anything on here for a long time. Well Erika and I have only 8 days until we have to go back to school!!!!!!!!! Erika still has her nasty smelly crab. I don't have anything to say so I guess I'll say goodbye.
BYE 8*)

Grandma
8/13/2001
Hey, Erika, It sounds like you have a stinky pet too, Penny is one stinky dog, but she is still a good pet. I'm sure Shelly will be too (good name for it). And Amanda, Tristen's blanket is at my house, I'll swap it for Tristen!!

Lindsey
8/13/2001
Amanda~ Tristen left her Britney PJ's over here and her Sasha dog AND two movies! But no blanket, I don't think. Way to go on your C in biology. At least you passed and don't have to take it unless you want to (which I'm sure you do :):) hahaha).
Erika~ Cool Hermit Crab, but I do agree with Amanda they stink and it will stay that way. But cool anyway.
Grandma~ I really do like the arbor and could you tell if Livy liked it? Hahahaha!
I got my hair cut a few days ago and it is kinda like Jennifer Aniston's but it is a little different, yesterday my Mom straightened it and it looked better, because I still have my perm a little bit. But I like it better straight.

Amanda
8/13/2001
I love the arbor, grandma! Has anyone seen Tristens blanket and her Britney pajamas? She lost both the weekend everyone was here, just thought someone might have seen them...

Amanda
8/13/2001
Wait until that Hermit crab passes on, then the whole house will stink, forever!!!!!

Erika
8/12/2001
Today we went to the mall and I got a Hermit Crab! Emily HATES it, and I named it Shelly. It really stinks, but I still like it. Bye 8)

Amanda
8/10/2001
I got a C in Biology! Woohoo! Not my usual A work, but who cares, I totally passed, and never have to take another science again, unless I want to! (Here's hoping that is the case.) That class was H-E-double-hockey-sticks! And I have to keep telling myself that a C is still good, it is average, and I suppose there is nothing wrong with being average, at least just once!

Grandma
8/10/2001
Looks like everyone has had a pretty interesting last few weeks, have really enjoyed the newsletter and the photos page. First the Storm and all the vacation pictures. Anna, I don't think you could have missed us in hot old Lincoln at all. Beautiful scenery. Congratulations, Amanda on completing your summer classes, I'm sure you aced your final. Way to go Zach on getting your diploma also!! Hope you guys in Sioux City are all calmed down. Meanwhile, our weather took a turn for the better, Thank God!! Still no rain but some promises. Paul and Livy put an arbor at my front gate this week and it really looks good. Linz and I oversaw the project from the front porch, we got sweaty doing that! I want a Dancin' Tristen I can hang in the living room (animated, of course). Absolutely guaranteed to make you smile every time!!

Amanda
8/9/2001
We made the chicken alfredo casserole that Marsha put on the recipe page. Not only was it very easy and quick, Tristen and Ryan liked it, that's hard to win both of them over! Thanks Marsha!

Amanda
8/8/2001
I have my last day of class on Thursday. It isn't even really a class, we are just going in to take the final and then I am going to the bookstore to sell back these awful books. I'm sure I will only get a tiny fraction of what I paid for them, but hey. I feel OK about this last test, it is over evolution and Darwin and geological eras, and to me that is much easier than cells and DNA. I have 2 days left to bowl 5 games. Did 4 today, can't wait to be done with that. Tristen and Ryan went with me today and Tristen beat me one time (with bumpers and Ryans help)..... I just cant wait to be out of this class, it ruined my summer! Well, I will keep you posted on the outcome of the class. Thanks Marsha for the recipe. Oh, and I admit it too, we keep coming to the website just to see Tristen dancing!

Marsha
8/8/2001
Hi everybody. We really had a great time in Lincoln. Thanks to all! The Dancin Tristen is fabulous! Wow! So are all the other pictures. Sioux City sure looks messed up, must be getting back to normal by now (hope so anyway.) It is still unbearably hot here, weather people say we will get a cool front tomorrow.... lots of heat records have been broken. Amanda, I will put the recipe on the recipe page as soon as I'm finished here. Sunny slept all the way home - he misses Olivia and Penny. Anna and John had a great trip to Colorado Springs. Anna and Sam leave for California on Aug. 22.

Emily
8/8/2001
I agree with Amanda, I get tons of forwards too I won't mention any names but you know who you are and please don't send me any more!
Bye 8)

Karen
8/8/2001
Things are returning to normal around the city. Still huge piles of trees and branches on the yards, but hopefully the city will begin to pick those up soon. We had the electricity go off for about an hour on Sunday -- but thankfully it was soon fixed.
Emily is going camping this afternoon - it's a birthday party for one of her friends. I'm sure she'll have a note about it when she returns.
Erika is busy rearranging her bedroom. She got an armoire this week-end.
Lori- thanks for the recipe - I'll try it this week-end.
Tristen - we love the dancing pictures of you - we keep looking at the web page just to see you dance :)

Amanda
8/7/2001
Someone put out a film called Dog & Cats the same time Cats & Dogs came out?????

Ooops. Dang, and I proofread for a living! I got the name wrong. It is "Cats and Dogs," and has now been fixed on the reviews page. --Gary

Amanda
8/7/2001
This is to anyone and everyone who sends out forwards that say "you must send this out to at least X amount of people for this to come true, or you will have bad luck." I do not like chain letters. I also dont like sorting through an e-mail box FULL of these things, most of them duplicates from different people. Please take me off of your list for people to forward to. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate any good forwards you may think interesting to pass along, it is the ones that require me "to send it out or else." I may even pass along a good forward that has this at the bottom, but I always at the top apologize for the chain letter at the bottom and explain that is not the purpose of sending it. Sorry if this sounds crabby........

Amanda
8/7/2001
I would like a recipe from Marsha. I know that the pasta and chicken and spinach thing you said you threw together, and I have the main idea, but I missed the cheese type and stuff, so if you could post that wonderful recipe I would appreciate it. Any others like that with spinach might be good too....

Lori
8/7/2001
Karen- I put up the recipe for the veggie pizza, hope it works!

Amanda
8/7/2001
GREAT pictures of Tristen. She is still laughing about them... 1 more full day of class then the final on Thursday and then I'm done. Everyone cross their fingers that I pass!

Donna
8/7/2001
Great pictures, but where was Emily? Can I have a dancing Tristen on this note, please?

I only got one picture of Emily, and it didn't turn out very well -- too dark. Emily, next time stay longer! :-) --Gary

Paul
8/7/2001
Hope everything is getting back to normal in Sioux City, It will take a while!!! Great pictures on the page. Tristen, what a rocker!!!

Lindsey
8/7/2001
I know of a really bad virus- If you get an e-mail that says you can use the Budweiser Beer Frogs as a desktop wallpaper then don't download it because it will wipe your WHOLE entire computer out and will shut it down and you can't get it to restart. Just a warning. By the way, I LOVE the dancin' Tristen picture!

Karen
8/6/2001
Lori - I have a request -- we LOVED the pizza you made when we were in Lincoln - could you send the recipe? Thanks.

Gary
8/6/2001
A word of warning about computer viruses. There are a couple of new viruses making the rounds that are hidden in e-mail attachments -- so that if you open the attachment, your computer is infected with the virus. So be careful with e-mail attachments! If you get e-mail with an attachment from a complete stranger, don't open it -- just trash it. I've gotten three or four of them just today here at my office. If you have any questions, let me know!

Karen
8/5/2001
Here are more storm pictures from Sioux City. They were sent in the same time as the others Karen and Emily sent, but for some reason they didn't arrive in my mailbox until a day later. Looks like a wild storm! --Gary

Grandma
8/4/2001
What a wild day for the Nelson's. Glad no one was hurt, and that you are back to nearly normal. I guess if you are in the path of Mother Nature, there isn't a whole lot you can do. It must have been one of those 100 year storms. Meanwhile it is the same HOT and HUMID days and nights here. My energy is really at low ebb. Marsha and Sam got home about 2:00 p.m. today. They left at 6 a.m. and said it was just as hot when they got home as here. A nice week and I enjoyed it all. John and Anna get back tomorrow. Slow day today though, Penny and I slept most of the afternoon. Good news Amanda and Ryan--I am not disappointed at all but must admit I was kind of rooting for a boy!

Karen
8/4/2001
Here are some pictures of the storm damage -- these were all taken within 2 blocks of our house -- most of them are just across the street.

Amanda
8/4/2001
We got our check today from the IRS for the full amount that they said it would be. They are mailing them out on the Friday before the week they told you to expect it, but in some cases it seems to be getting there on the Saturday before. Just thought I'd update.

Amanda
8/4/2001
That is the strangest weather deal..... Glad everyone and everything is OK though!

Karen
8/3/2001
Boy what a difference a day makes! Much improved around here today, mostly we have had electricity all day (and AC). There are trees and branches everywhere you go. Our block got hit pretty hard, but still other blocks have it much worse. The street just one block over is still blocked with downed trees. Two blocks down they are still without electricity. You go outside and all you hear is the buzz of chainsaws.

Emily
8/3/2001
Finally we have electricity!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yesterday about 7:00 am It started to rain Very HEAVY!!!!!! And very HEAVY winds. Then the electricity went out (and it just came back on at about midnight we think). Mom and Erika and I went walking around outside to see what happened and got totally soaked!!!! There were trees, powerlines, mud EVERWHERE,and firetrucks and police cars were going up and down the streets checking on people. Our neighbor had a tree fall on her house, so there was a big hole in her attic. Dad and some other guys helped her cut up the tree and put a tarp on it. Then we thought the worst was over but we were wrong. 1st we heard what sounded like fire works going off, Then we looked across the street, and a powerline had caught on fire, so Dad got the cell phone and had to call 911, but once the fire truck came it was out. About 1:00 dad could finally get to work. Then on the radio we heared that the mayor had declared a state of emergency, and Woodbury county (where we live!) was declared it a disaster area. The weather people call it a downburst which had 98 mph winds lots of trees were totally uprooted!! And since we had no electricity, It Was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo hot, then mom called the power company and found out it wasn't going to come until the next day!!! So we checked into a hotel. Then this morning we came home and yay!! We have electricity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bye 8*)
