Actually, we did do Ensure, I saw it as I was waiting for the script to fill and thought, why not.. We'll try it!
Wisdom teeth would have been a couple weeks before, so it wouldn't have conflicted, and now it's pushed off til Christmas break, so that's crummy, she'll have another "vacation" time cut short. :(

Aww, poor Tristen. Those dang side effects from medicine! Have you tried Ensure or even Carnation Instant Breakfasts? Brent's doctor always suggested those when food wouldn't stay down. Aren't you glad she didn't have her wisdom teeth pulled..... that would have been really tough.

Tristen had a rough day yesterday, as I worried about long before the surgery the pain meds started to get to her, she lost her appetite, couldn't eat, and then it made her sick. She slowed down on water intake and no food at all. Thinking about food made her want to be sick, and food and meds actually did make her sick. I went out twice yesterday for different foods, and then later to pick up a new prescription, which was the key. She felt like a different person in the evening compared to yesterday morning. This morning she's doing much better. The pain is there and always there, but that's to be expected, just crummy she had to deal with a pain med caused set back. I saw the first sign of boredom yesterday, she was sketching on a pad of paper, and she never does that. I smiled a bit looking at it and she said, "yes, I'm bored?!?!" I don't think it means she's ready to be up and doing things, but it's a step in the right direction!

Today's update... Tristen is doing ok today. Yesterday was that "feel pretty good for just having surgery" day where really it's probably just all the surgery drugs in you creating a false sense of feeling good... Today reality hit a bit and her throat hurts and she's having a harder time eating and swallowing and talking. She slept good last night from 1230-430, not as good from 430-830. Not much today but isn't tired like yesterday. Not eating much, but not overly hungry. She vomited last night which is not cool after surgery in your throat. :( Nausea is a little better today, she has a pill to help with that. She'll start getting stir crazy tomorrow or the next day I'm visualizing!

Good to hear Tristen is doing ok. It always amazes me how fast our bodies heal. Take it from me, keep up on the pain meds, even if she doesn't think she needs them. Hope she has a good day.

8pm, Tristen is good. Just a tiny bit of pain but ate some applesauce and pudding already. Pudding was better feeling. She's drinking well and ice feels great. (We ended up getting 2 big bags of Sonic ice- it rocks!) so better than I thought she'd be at this point. She's scabbing up already which seems quick so that's good too. Soooo yucky looking. Not sleeping for long times but lots of rest and cat naps. She is due for her 2nd round of pain meds here in about 10 min. She could tell last time when she was ready for them, so we'll be staying on top of the pain for sure.

Doctor just came in, surgery went well. The tonsils were pretty "big and ugly" in his words but in good shape blood vessel wise for as many infections as she's had. Her adenoids were still present so they removed them, and she had a cyst in there which is uncommon or strange to him. Not bad but just proof she needed all this out. When he was taking out the bigger tonsil there was an infection pocket inside the tonsil, so who knows if the kid just always lives with strep inside her or what. Either way-- they're out now!

We haven't seen her yet, still in OR. Just wanted everyone to know she's done and good according to the doc.

I know you won't see this today, but feel better, Tristen!

Tristen, we'll be thinking of you in the next few days. I'm sure it will be a speedy recovery and then far less sore throats :)

Hey all! Tristen has surgery on Monday July 28th to have her tonsils (& adenoids if she has them) removed. It's a fairly painful recovery for someone her age (& older), so send us your thoughts! I'll update via this website after the procedure!
