Amanda, I'm bummed too not to be in Lincoln this week. I am trying to figure out a day to go, but not looking very likely at this time.... No fun to live far away......

Drama with the "embeds"! Though it's not much of a surprise. I bet some way or another the administration gets em all out if this gets any nastier. God forbid us Americans see the nasty truth of war. I'm a little bummed about hearing of everyone being there and we aren't. Karen, tell me you guys arent going and that will make me feel better! :) Nice weather here today, 80's all week. Our water restriction got lifted a little, so we can water twice a week (recently we were not allowed outside water at all) so we got some weed killer/fertilizer, and grass seed. Hope to wallpaper the kitchen this weekend, hopefully!

Anna came too? I thought she was going to California with John!!

As I'm probably the only one in Lincoln who will be looking at this page for the next week, I'll answer that one. Yeah, it was a last-minute surprise! Just the day before their California flight, John wasn't feeling well, so they decided to postpone the CA trip to later this summer. Which meant Anna was now free to visit Lincoln. I'll leave any other details for Marsha to fill in, if she wants. Today is a shopping day, I understand -- I'm at work, but the others are off buying stuff at the mall. Tonight everyone's coming over to Mom's for dinner, later maybe some Facts in Five. --Gary

More news! I just read that director Peter Jackson ("Lord of the Rings") has signed to direct a re-make of "King Kong," to start immediately after the release of "Return of the King" this Christmas. This was a project he had wanted to do before LOTR, but no one was interested as Jackson was then more or less unknown. But now it has been green-lighted. Woo-hoo! The big monkey is coming back! :-)

March must have come in like a lion, because it is going out like a lamb. Beautiful day out there, and supposed to be the same all week. Here's a mish-mash of news:

---To end the suspense, I will report that Buster HAS been found, and is in good shape; I will leave the dramatic story of his capture to Lindsey.
---Marsha, Sam, and Anna arrived yesterday around 3 pm. We took a short field trip to inspect Sean's home improvements, then had a spectacular salmon dinner courtesy of Grandma, and then gathered in the living room to plan out all the places we want to eat this week.
---I heard this morning that Geraldo Rivera (aka Gerry Rivers) has gotten himself kicked out of Iraq. He has been reporting for Fox "News" (aka the Bush Propaganda Service) and in a recent broadcast gave away the exact location of one of the combat units -- instead of saying, "somewhere in Iraq" or "a number of miles south of Baghdad" or whatever. I have to admit I was amused that Fox News is now guilty of having given aid and comfort to the enemy. :-) To me, Rivera's crime was not that he gave out classified information, but that he works for Fox News.... In a related story, Peter Arnett is voluntarily leaving Iraq, after having gotten fired from both NBC and National Geographic over the weekend. Seems Arnett gave an interview to Iraqi TV in which he said the war was not proceeding the way originally planned. Which is no doubt true, but unwise to say -- on tape -- to the Iraqis who are now broadcasting that clip to their fighting forces. I saw Arnett on NBC this morning, giving a kind of farewell performance, and he looked devastated and very apologetic.
---A story just beginning to break is that there is dissension between the administration and the Pentagon. Apparently the Pentagon war planners had been urging for a long time for a larger ground force, a longer air campaign, and over-all better planning; but the administration, principally Donald Rumsfeld, continually over-ruled them, saying that the war was going to be a lot easier than the Pentagon predicted. A reporter for the New Yorker magazine, where this story broke, says the Pentagon planners complained of the administration attitude of "If you agree with us, you're a genius; if you disagree, you're a traitor." Pentagon, meet the Bush administration.

Lindsey, have you found Buster yet????

Chicago isn't out on video yet is it? Or did Linz go to the theater?

Since we are temporarily misplaced in Texas I think the Dixie Chick thing is hilarious. People are freaks really. Apparently a lot of country radio stations are not playing their music here is Texas. I wouldn't know, since I don't go near a country music station myself, but I do know Texans are fiercely proud of themselves and their state, why though I can't figure out. I am a bit more reserved in my Bush thoughts down here as opposed to in Nebraska. Not because my opinion has changed, but because some Texans are crazy. And dumb. I say, good for the Dixie Chick for her initial comment, but dumb for her quick apology, just shows her sales are more important to her than her right to free speech. I saw on the local news one night some shirts printed up here locally in Texas and can't remember the whole thing, but one part said "Don't Mess With Texas... Or George W." Gimme a break. Oh, and do these politicians, presidents, military people and Secretaries RUE the day they pumped up the American people with the idea this would be a swift easy war?? All the news conferences do anymore are pick that idea apart as they re-nign without admitting the swift easy war idea.

Yup. I heard a reporter quote a Pentagon source today that we should prepare for "months" of fighting, and that the fighting is only going to get more intense. The Pentagon announced they are going to DOUBLE the number of troops over there now. I have to admit that I was one of the "swift" predictors as well; the Iraqi army is only a fraction of the size it was in '91, and that operation took, what, a week and a half? After the early successes in the first few days, I figured we'd soon be seeing the massive surrenders (to CNN reporters!) that we saw in '91 and the Marines would be doing their laundry in Baghdad by now. But not so. --Gary

Hey everybody! Sorry I haven't been on lately. Congratulations Sam! Are you bringing it with you when you visit? I'm so mad I have school that week. Well I'm afraid I have some bad news. Buster (my hampster) must have got out last night and I don't know how, but me and Olivia and my Dad searched all this morning and couldn't find him and then Dad remembered that Ceaser slept downstairs last night and if Buster did get out then... yeah but I don't think Ceaser would do that. But I don't know, we'll keep looking. Yes, Gary I would like you to change my e-mail address because if you don't sign into your MSN account in 30 days they will delete it and I like yahoo so much better because you get it free and there is absolutely no junk mail. I have had it for maybe 2 months and have gotten nothing at all! Donna I hope your arm gets to feeling better! Amanda-I had fun talking to Tristen. I can't wait to see you guys this summer. Well, I better go, Bye!

OK, Lindsey's email address is now correct on the contact page. Good luck finding the hamster, Linz! I suggest you rent Mouse Hunt this weekend to get some ideas! --Gary

Donna

Gary, I'm surprised to see Dixie Chicks as the cool site of the day. I'm wondering if it's because they spoke out against Bush. They said they were ashamed to say they were from the same state as Bush or something like that. So does that mean you now like some country???

Well, something like that... Here I was thinking country music was all about spousal abuse, white supremacy, and the challenge of eating pork rinds with no front teeth. So imagine my surprise when these so-called "Dixie Chicks" of yours made a statement about Bush that was mildly critical (though quickly apologized for). Who knew??? :-) Seriously, The Dixie Chicks are pretty good. While I probably won't go so far as to buy one of their CDs, I deplore all the cement-headed "patriotic Americans" who are burning theirs.... --Gary

Dear Amanda, I've bought those before and you're right, they are the perfect snack. I love them. But I've never seen the hot ones before, maybe it's a Texas region thing. Speaking of snacks, have you tried the Lays San Antonio Salsa potato chips? Those are really good too. Write back ~ Donna :-)

Dear Olivia, How is Caeser Boy? I bet he misses Penny. He looks cute in his bandana. Do you think he likes to wear it? When we were taking our walk the other day, I thought it was really neat how we could be blocks away from Grandma's and when you heard a dog bark, you knew if it was Caeser or not. And you could tell a girl dog by its bark. How do you know that? Write back.

Well, we're halfway through "Cats Week" and on Sunday, as some of you already know, we begin "Dogs Week." (Get ready, Olivia!)

Donna had a good idea which she shared with me yesterday. She suggested that other people (which is to say, anyone reading this!) could contribute their own "theme week" pictures. All you need to do is gather around seven (7) pictures and send them to me -- preferably in electronic form, but if not you can send the photos to me and I can scan them. These can be photos you have taken yourself, or other photos you already have, or pictures you have downloaded from the internet. Vacation pictures? Photos of your pet? Baby pictures of yourself? Photos of your favorite shoes? It's all good! Now you can be "Webmaster For a Week"!

Olivia

Dear Donna,
First I wrote the note. Then I finally found out you were coming. But I knew I couldn't delete it because I already sent it. I'm glad you bought something from my sale too.

Hey Donna, I'm sorry you fell down the stairs, but that's what happens when you get SO OLD. Actually, I fall a lot too, but oh well. My rat's name is HELGA, not Hilda. I have put Oscar on my shelf upstairs in my room. He is wearing the suit that Erika made for him. See you in a few days. (bout 5)

Donna
3/25/03
Congratulations Samantha! Where are you going to put Oscar? I hope you don't put it any where near Hilda.

Amanda, I can't believe you've never won when you have the second highest average. That's weird. Ryan was indeed heckling me. I get no inside information, I'm just good. I wonder if there's something in the rules about hecklers. But Ryan my offer still stands for next year.

Donna
3/25/03
Dear Olivia, I did come over to see you at my Mom's house. Don't you remember? I was glad I could buy something from your sale. I can't wait til you deliver the cookie dough. Write back.

3/25/03
Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. I fell down the basement stairs Sunday afternoon and landed on my right arm. I can't believe I actually did that. So I ended up taking my birthday off after all. I went over Mom's to spend the afternoon with Lindsey and Olivia since they didn't have school. We took a looong walk and watched "About a Boy" so that was fun. I'm back at work today, but still slow moving.

Lindsey

Hi everybody!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DONNA!

Hey just FYI if you have been trying to send me e-mails at my MSN address I am probably not getting them. My e-mail address that I have been using for a while is Lindsey121589@yahoo.com. It's been on the contact page but just reminding everyone!

Actually, Lindsey, your email address on the contact page is your old one at msn.com (LinzRae89). Do you want me to change it to your new Yahoo one? --Gary

It is with great pleasure that I accept Oscar this year! If the Oscars were like a test at school I would be getting straight A's. Gary, who won the kids category this year? See you in a week! Bubye.

Well, YOU won the kids category this year! :-) What we've been doing the last couple of years is splitting the year between the winner with the highest score and the winner under 17 with the highest score. This year you were both of those winners. But if you want to unselfishly share the award, the next highest score under 17 belongs to Emily. Is that your plan? --Gary

Gary
3/24/03
Yeah, I appreciated Michael Moore too (he's the one you asked about, Amanda). He's the first person I've heard in the past two years who publicly alluded to the presidential "election" ("a fictional president waging a fictional war"). Took guts! Especially after the booing started -- he plowed right on to the end. And yes, the Oscars started at 7:30; the half hour prior to that is the "pre-game" red carpet stuff. The pins were handed out by a peace activist group to any celeb who would wear them. The idea was, the celeb wears the pin at the Oscars, then gives it back so it can be auctioned on Ebay ("this is the pin that Denzel Washington wore," etc), with the proceeds going to some humanitarian charity. They did the stage full of past Oscar winners at last year's show too. In fact, last year I think they managed to get every living Oscar winner on stage -- much smaller crowd this year.

Karen
3/24/03
Congratulations Samantha!! I didn't watch it all, and wasn't sure who had won until this morning. It was a close race. I finally got more than 3 right :) I think my favorite part was watching Michael Moore -- his comments on Bush and the war. Interesting to see the camera pan the audience -- some people seemed unsure if they should applaud or boo.

Amanda
3/24/03
To quote Peter O'Toole, "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride..." I have to agree. Ryan called Donna at one point during the broadcast to heckle her (we think she waits for some Gallup Oscar Poll to vote :)) and I made the point that no, I have never won, but I am always SOOO close. Congrats to Sam!! Also, did the Oscars start late or was that just me? Maybe it was supposed to start at 7:30. Also, I can't remember who the guy was (or what the award was) that really went off about Bush? Whew, risque! And what were the pins everyone was wearing? And who liked the stage full of winners with EVERYONE being introduced? Neat idea, maybe I would have enjoyed it earlier in the show.

Olivia

Dear Donna
Sorry that you couldn't come over to your mom's house with Lindsey, Grandma, Ceaser, Penny, and me. So I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday. When you told me about when you took Mojo to the vet that he meowed really loud and then the doctor put Mojo back in his cage. That was funny. Oh, and thanks for buying something from my sale. Shaping up to be a nice day for everyone it looks like! Lincoln & Sioux City are already a few degrees warmer than we are! We are tearing our kitchen wallpaper off today, what a hassle. And of course you always find more work in the project than you originally thought, we are going to have to replace the drywall behind the washing machine in the laundry room (which is right off the kitchen and will be wallpapered the same). If it gets too warm in the house (which it tends to do when it nears 80 and we aren't ready to turn on the A/C) we will head outside and put off the wallpapering for awhile. Anything to get us away from the news on TV, the war is starting to show its true colors, and it's not as "glorious" as it was a few days ago. Not really looking forward to watching the Oscars, I don't want to see celebrities grand stand and preach about the war. I am a little miffed that they think they are SOOO special and need extra security and no red carpet entrance because they think they are a target for terrorism. Maybe they are, but I don't like the fact that they think it would be a much worse scenario for them to be terrorized against, than say a college graduation (or some other equally large gathering of "average" citizens). I hope when they are preaching about the war they remember all the National Guardsmen wasting their time protecting them tonight when they could be doing more meaningful tasks. I just think that any mass of people, celebrties or not, are a target and would be a huge loss. Anyhow, thought I would preach for a bit!

After we watched the "shock and awe" campaign in Baghdad (at about 1) there was a press conference with Ari and some press member asked nonchalantly if Bush watched it on TV and he said he doubted it, and he hated to say it in that room, but that Bush didn't watch TV much. Then everyone bum rushed him with questions asking how he could not watch it, how could he order the strikes and then not witness it. Try to find the Q & A session, it was funny to see Ari kind of trip over his comments on that statement.

Gary
3/21/03
Yeah, I think Ari is short for "arrogant" -- which makes him a perfect fit for this administration. (Check this article.) But I missed him getting the third degree. (Guess I wasn't watching TV either!) What happened?

Amanda
3/21/03
Anyone else sick of hearing Ari say "The President thinks... The President knows... The President does... The President doesn't..."? And boy is Ari getting the third degree because Bush didn't turn on the TV!

Amanda
3/20/03
Any chance of a webcam in Baghdad?

Not likely. I did do a search for one, not really expecting to find any... and didn't. All you really have to do, though, is turn on MSNBC or CNN -- they've got a little picture-in-picture view of Baghdad almost round the clock. --Gary

With the Oscars only three days away, and with bombs falling in Iraq and Kuwait, here's some related news: The Oscar organizers have decided to not have the big red-carpet entrance to the auditorium this year. I understand a lot of the stars had been saying they didn't want to walk down the red carpet as if everything was normal, and were asking about side entrances where they could enter quietly. So the producers decided to eliminate that part (or at least cut it way back). Also, I heard that all the Hollywood designers who supply the celebrity evening wear have been getting panicky calls from celebs saying, in so many words, "Forget the sequins and feathers -- what have you got in serious black?" Also, Steve Martin (this year's host) is dropping a lot of the comedy, and all the presenters (including the usually-outspoken Susan Sarandon) have agreed to not make political statements. (Though in the acceptance speeches winners can say whatever they want.)

Happy first day of spring!

Gary
3/18/03
Really. I considered sending a note to those congressmen asking them to support a measure changing the name "Republican Party" to "Asinine Party." A lot more catchy (and truthful!) than "Freedom Fries." :-)

We won't be in attendance Oscar night, and we will NEVER forget the blizzard of Oscar night 2002, took us what 2, 2 1/2 hours to get home?? Sorry Ryan and Tristen didn't get to play along, I couldn't get Tristen in the house off her swingset long enough to help her vote, and Ryan has been busy with house projects and then watching the news with war updates. We have a VERY good friend right now in the desert, so it has officially hit close to home for us (closer than it already was). It is Mike (Matusik) that lived down the street from us at Offutt and worked in the same squadron as Ryan, so if we weren't down here Ryan would surely be there also right now. Scary, and only time will tell how bad it will get, what are we at 30 hours now, even though Hussein has already rejected the "ultimatum"? (And are we surpised about that??) Oh, and we have been busy playing on our new computer, we got a bigger better one this weekend, and we LOVE it!!

Actually, Ryan did get his Oscar votes in, just under the wire yesterday. --Gary

Gary
3/18/03
The Oscar votes are in (thanks, everybody), and I printed off scoresheets for anyone who wants to play along on Sunday night. The scoresheets are in today's mail, so everybody should have received them by the weekend. Anyone in the vicinity of Orchard Street is invited to watch the show on the big-screen TV. I know it's a school night for some, and a long drive for others. (And last year, lest we forget, we had a blizzard on Oscar night!) Anyway, good luck everyone!

Happy St. Paddy's Day!!

Been outside this morning, uncovering flower beds (I know its way too early) but cabin fever got the best of me, it is also 64 by my thermometer and it was thundering a few minutes ago.
I'm thinking Spring!!! Lots of things are up and have a miniature yellow iris in bloom, a nice surprise.
Amanda and Ryan, your dining room looks so pretty, bet it is fun to put stuff back in a clean and bright space. So your break begins today, are you dismantling the kitchen?
Karen, I hope you are feeling better, did you make it to school today?
Marsha and Sam, won't be long now!! Be so happy to see you.
FREE UNsolicited advice to Amanda, maybe you will want to put felt or glides on your chairs and table (if you already haven't) so your new floor doesn't get scratched or dented.

As I don't have any real news, howsabout some more entertainment news?

Here is a bunch of new screenshots for the upcoming computer game Restaurant Empire (it will be in the stores on March 18). This one looks like a lot of fun. (Amanda, did you ever get the demo to work for you?) Also, I just bought Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis yesterday, and it is very cool. A lot like Restaurant Empire in that you can zoom right down into the action, but here instead of building an eatery you start with an island and build Jurassic Park -- dinosaurs, electric fences, souvenir shops, food stalls, restrooms, Land Rovers, helicopters, tranquilizer darts -- and then open the doors and let the tourists in. The dinosaur behavior is very realistically modelled; you could spend a lot of time just watching them roam around the island interacting with the environment and each other. Fun game! Here is the official site where you can see screenshots and get a demo.

I mentioned before that Russell Crowe will be starring in a movie called Master and Commander, based on the great Patrick O'Brian book series about the captain of a sailing ship during the Napoleonic wars. (Read those books -- you'll thank me!) Anyway, the movie was to have been released in May -- just two months from now -- but the producers have decided to delay it until November, so it will still be fresh in the minds of the Oscar voters next year. This movie should be fantastic. It also stars Billy Boyd, one of the hobbits in the Lord of the Rings movies.

Speaking of Oscars, the show organizers have announced that the show will go on, whether or not there's a war going on. Should make for a few interesting acceptance speeches -- when you have a live audience of a hundred million or so, it's tempting not to make a political speech! :-) And if Brent, Donna, John, Lori, Olivia, Ryan, Sean, Tristen, and Zachary want to make your voices heard, please get your Oscar ballots in this weekend!

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled programming.

The Chancellor of the University just now sent out an email to all employees detailing the budget cuts for this year, and I thought you might be interested. This is the third consecutive year of cuts, and equal or greater cuts are planned for the next two years -- if the economy stays the same! If it gets worse (and gee, what are the odds of that??), then more cuts would take place. Anyway, this round includes major cuts to Morrill Hall (the museum), with reduced staff and reduced programs -- meaning they will have to reduce the hours they are open. Also, they will close the Planetarium; it is gone. They are also reducing the size of the Marching Band, and eliminating scholarships for band members. Plus cuts to lots of other departments and programs. The Chancellor and his wife are donating $10,000 to a fund he created called "The Faculty and Staff Budget Reduction Impact Fund," which was set up to help faculty and staff who are "adversely affected by the budget cuts." He's urging other employees to donate what they can. By my count, reading through the memo, 81 people lost their jobs today, including 8 tenured professors. As I said before, my little 7-person department is safe as we actually make money for the University (up in the 7-figures range, every year). Right now, as I write this, a large group of students from this campus and the Omaha campus have marched from the Student Union to the Capitol building, where they hope to speak with the legislators and convince them to stop the cuts. Just FYI!

Monday morning, and the cold weather may be on the way out. The weather guy this morning said up in the 30s by the end of the day, and a little warmer each day this week -- into the 70s by the weekend. Them is Texas numbers!

The Oscars are two weeks away, but I would like to have all the ballots in by next Monday. So far I've received ballots from Amanda, Emily, Erika, Karen, Lindsey, and Paul -- so if your name wasn't mentioned there you have a week to get your ballot in. The Screen Actors Guild Awards were on last night, and they're usually a pretty good predictor of the Oscars (even though the categories don't match up exactly with the Oscars); if you didn't watch, here's a complete list of the results. If you're ready to make your choices, go to the oscar ballot.

Yup, the install went fine, but when I go to start it up it goes black and quickly goes back to my desktop. Our system requirements are OK (at the bottom end, but OK).

Hmmmm. In my expert opinion (speaking as an expert), it sounds like you either need to update your video drivers and/or install the latest version of DirectX. For the video drivers, Ryan probably has done this before -- if not I can help out. For DirectX, just get the CD from the latest game you have and look for the DirectX folder; it will have the most recent version. Just run "DXsetup" and it will do the rest. (I think DirectX is up to 8.1 at the moment.) --Gary

I tried to load Restaurant Empire (took about an hour download with cable) but I can't get it to work after installing. I need a new computer I'm thinking... The game sounds fun though. It's a beautiful day here 75, great day to start spring break (for Ryan and Tristen, I still have a week to go).

What's the game doing? (Or not doing?) The install went ok, but the game won't start, you mean? Or it starts up, but freezes or goes black soon after? Check the system requirements to see if your computer is up to snuff. (Should be, if Ryan is playing games on it....) Let me know if I can help! --Gary

Hey everybody! Today at 12:30 me and a bunch of my friends all left and went to the East Girl's basketball game at the Devaney center and it started at 1:30 and got over at 3 and they were playing Miller West and they won 61 to 58 so they will go for the championship tomorrow so I hope they win. GO EAST!

I don't think adding our name to a U.N.'s list will help anything. I think Bush is so war happy gung-ho that it doesn't matter what us Americans or the United Nations thinks. Speaking of snow, we warmed up and tomorrow it starts at least 10 days of 70's, tomorrow getting into the upper 70's. Same all weekend. Which is good timing, tomorrow is Tristen's last day of school before spring break and Ryan's last day of work before he has a week off. Swingset building time. However, tomorrow is a sad day. Tristen's teacher, Mrs. Davidson has her last day. There was a get together for her tonight and all was fine, Tristen was hanging out with her friends, and attached to Kennedy as well, then I told her it was time to go and she started crying, real quiet and just so I could see, but because she was going to miss Mrs. Davidson. She pulled herself together to go say goodbye to Mrs. Davidson, and when she hugged her she started crying all over agian, which made Mrs. Davidson cry, as well as a lot of parents. Tomorrow may be rough. :(:(

If you would like to add your name to an emergency petition from people around the world to the U.N. Security Council urging them to not support Bush's war plans, go here. It's going to be delivered either today, or on March 10 -- I've seen both dates mentioned. Whichever date, it's coming up soon.

Happy Thursday everybody. Thought I would chime in with a couple of entertainment news items:

1) In production right now is a movie about the racehorse Seabiscuit. It stars Tobey McGuire (Cider House Rules, Spiderman) as the jockey, Jeff Bridges as the owner, and Chris Cooper (Oscar-nominee for Adaptation) as the trainer. Good cast! The movie will be released this summer, on July 25. If you haven't read the book yet, do yourself a favor and get it. (At least read my review of it...!) Here's a very cool website about the book and movie. (And I just learned on that site that there is also a PBS documentary on Seabiscuit in the works.)

2) There are two new computer games due to be released soon which are looking very good. One is called Restaurant Empire and it's kind of a cross between "The Sims" and the Food Channel. In this game you choose one of three cities -- Paris, Rome, or L.A. -- to build your restaurant. Then you hire a chef, wait-staff, and kitchen crew; decorate your restaurant; put together a menu; and wait for the customers. Each customer will have on opinion about your place that will help you make it better. When I played the demo version, a couple of customers asked me "Why is it so dark in here?" and "Why is the Veal Roulade so expensive?" They also complained that the receptionist was rude, so I fired her, installed a few wall sconces, and knocked a couple of bucks off the veal. :-) You can tinker with the recipes to improve them. You can also enter your chef in cooking competitions ala "The Iron Chef." The animations are very realistic and detailed. You watch from a top-down view (like The Sims), and it really does look and feel like a real restaurant. If one person orders cream of asparagus soup and another orders tomato, you can zoom in and discover that the first soup is green and the second red! Looks like this could be a winner. Here's the game's website where you'll learn a lot about it, and you can also download the demo. (Warning: it's 143 megabytes, so if you're connecting with a modem the download will take all night -- if you're lucky!) It will be on the store shelves by the end of this month.

The other game is called The Movies, and it puts you in the role of a studio head. You get to choose the scripts, hire the actors and directors, choose the sets and special effects, etc -- and then the computer will actually make a little movie from these elements. You can post your movies on the internet, and each month other movie-makers will vote on the Best Picture. It will be like having the Oscars every month. :-) I don't have a release date for this one, but here's the website!

Sam and I plan to leave Mpls. on Sun. or Mon. Mar. 30 or 31, depending on how much we have to do here. We will stay through the week and leave on the following weekend if all goes according to plan. Anna and John leave for California on Mar. 29 and come back on April 7. For any interested shoppers....I can bring some things from the store, so if you have any requests just let me know. Check out our website. It's really cold, deep freeze and we just want a little spring. Teghan, cool pictures! You are too cute!

Gary your joke was a long time favorite of Brent's dad, heard that one every christmas season.....

Really? :-) I just heard it for the first time today. It's a good one! --Gary

I just spoke with Grandma about it, and we're both confused! So to any Hatgidakis within the sound of my voice, we need clarification! :-)

Hey Tristen, thanks for the card! You are goofy-- and a good artist. :-)

I just heard a joke that made me think of Tristen: A guy from up north is travelling through Texas at Christmas and stops off in a little town called Iowa Park. He's admiring all the lights and decorations, but he finally stops a local and asks, "These nativity displays are really nice, but how come all the Wise Men are wearing fireman hats??" The Texan replies, "Well, it says rat in the Bible, 'The Wise Men came from afar.'"

Marsha -- Sam, I'm confused what dates are you going to be in Lincoln?
Snow has stopped -- we got about 4 inches, now it's cold!! Only 5 for a high today.

Karen

Yes, we have snow! Already about 3 inches and it's still coming down. Should be ending by mid afternoon, and it's cold!! Street plows haven't been out yet and it's tricky to get around.

Gary

Get ready for snow, y'all! (Those of us in Nebraska and Iowa, anyway.) Wind is really blowing out there, and the first snowflakes are already in the air. Might get 3-6" before it's over. And I see on the webcam that Sioux City is already in the middle of it.

P.S.: Happy Mardi Gras, everybody! Again judging from the webcam, it looks rainy and chilly in New Orleans -- I'm seeing jackets and wet streets....

Did they have them in smaller sizes? I didn't see them in Tristen size, but I didn't look in the boys. Lori, you must have found them then huh? Sean, what about you, I thought they were perfect for you and dad.

Happy March everyone. February, for being the shortest month, sure seemed just as long as January did. Maybe its school. :) We got some bad news yesterday. Tristen's teacher isn't going to finish out the school year with her class. Her husband was transferred to Amarillo Texas (200 miles from IP) before Christmas and at first they thought Mrs. Davidson and her two daughters (one named Teghan) could stay here to finish out the school year and they would all commute back and forth. I guess it got to be too much. She is going to be there next week and that's it. Tristen told me when she told the class everyone was crying, even Mrs. Davidson, and they did it all day. I really hate to see her go, she is a GREAT teacher, couldn't have been better for kindergartners. They already have someone hired and she will be there all next week getting to know the kids and their routines and Tristen and her friends think she is pretty so she has to be nice.
