So any word of who the new coach is going to be? And will Solich still be coaching for the Bowl Game (whatever that may be) this year?

Gary
11/30/03
Wow! I hadn't heard this yet! (Haven't watched the news or seen a newspaper since the game.) I actually thought you were kidding, so I went online to verify it. (Here's the Journal-Star sports page, but it's a very long load-time -- maybe because so many people are trying to verify the story!) What a shocker! I never was a huge fan of Solich, but Pederson deserves to catch a lot of flak for this. In this one act, he did more to destroy the Nebraska "dynasty" than anything Solich ever did (or didn't do). Yes, a lot of long-standing records came to an end under Solich, but Pederson has destroyed the direct line of succession from Devaney-Osborne-Solich. Sad day. Having the team look bad is one thing, but this makes the whole program look bad.

Amanda
11/30/03
I can't believe it, Solich fired. I've been saying it for months, they fire him and we are no better than any other team that hires and fires at will. And it sounds like this athletic director Pederson is the one who needs fired. Wish we lived there, I would picket.

Funny picture on the front page! Did everyone have a good Thanksgiving? We had a pretty good time. Ate a lot of food!! What did everybody do?

Hey everybody! I got my birthday present early today after school. My parents got me a new cell phone! So tonight we have been trying to figure everything out on it and getting voice mail and stuff set up on it so you can call me on it now if you want to and the number is the same as the old one (430-2430) :) Talk to you guys later~
Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Today's cool site is kinda fun. You have to work around it a bit since they don't have some words and I couldn't get it to send the email but I sent the link and a note so they just copied the message in the box. So it still worked. It's fun to play with.

Gary
11/25/03
Good morning, everybody. Thanks to the Hatgidakis's for sending me a replacement webcam for Minneapolis: It is a much better view, but unfortunately it won't work on our page. It's one of those webcams that you, the viewer, can control, and those kind can't be copied to other pages -- they must be viewed on their home site. (There's a really cool webcam in Rome I wanted to put on our page, but same deal.) The Minneapolis webcam is here, so try it out!

Friday's Colorado game is on ABC at 11 am, so remember to support our troops fighting in this foreign land.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yeah Gary you are right, Lori and I were at Arlington two years ago and we saw the Kennedy graves. Boy that whole city will just take your breath away... Karen and Brent, I think your new S.U.V just looks fast, so you will always be pulled over for no reason...

almost forgot, Hey Teghan "Hellloo"

Just thought you would like to know--One month from today is Christmas Eve.

Lindsey
11/24/03
Hey everybody, stayed home sick today. Won't go into details about that. :) Not much to say although there is nothing on TV during the day! Slept in until about 11:30 then got up and watched TV for a while. Haven't been hungry all day! Nothing else new with us, anybody else?

Lindsey
11/23/03
Hey everybody! Me and Dad just got done setting up our new office desk and new monitor and keyboard! We got a new black flatscreen LCD monitor and a black keyboard to go with the new black desk we bought! The basement is really coming together now! Good to not be so cramped up on the computer in the living room! We'll try to get pictures soon and send them in!

Hey Everybody!! It is COLD and snowy here, and looks like its still snowing!
It was nice seeing everyone yesterday, Happy Thanksgiving!!

Grandma
11/23/03
Hi Everyone!
Cold and blustery here today but only a covering of snow here, and it looks to be done snowing as the sun is coming out, so guess we avoided the brunt of the much touted storm for the weekend. Fine by me. Had a good day yesterday, enjoyed the Nelson's visit and most happy to see Erika none the worse after her brush with a car, but we can do without any more excitement of that nature. Plan to do some Christmas "looking" with Lori and her Mom this p.m. Houses decorated for the season. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

Here's a reminder for all Simpsons fans: Tomorrow night's show (11/23) has the Simpsons going to England, where they meet J. K. Rowling (Harry Potter, if you didn't know) and Ian McKellan (Gandalf from LOTR, if you didn't know). Also Tony Blair, the Prime Minister.

Got home from Lincoln at 6. No snow yet, just a light rain, but the temp is 33 so it will be snow soon. Had a fun day and glad we got to see everyone. Oh, and I got pulled over by the police on the way home. Had the cruise set at 65 so I was sure I wasn't speeding. He pulled me over to tell me that my parking lights were on, so no ticket :)

Thanks for driving down. It was a fun day! --Gary

It's too bad I don't know this, but is Jackie buried with JFK? Because she was remarried, or did she divorce Onassis? Sorry, my generation just isn't enamored with the Kennedy's so I'm not too knowledgeable.

That picture made me curious too. In 1993 I visited his grave at Arlington (up on a hill with a great view of Washington across the river), but at that time his was the only marker there. Jacqueline died the following year and now is buried beside him, along with their two infant children. Robert Kennedy's grave is not far away. (FYI, I just noticed that the Dallas webcam is focused on Dealey Plaza today.) --Gary

Geez, what a crummy afternoon we had! I had just picked up Emily from school. I was in the driveway waiting at the stop sign, when we felt a bump in the back of the NEW CAR!! The car behind us ran into us. I jumped out and looked for the damage. I didn't really see much more than a scuff. I asked the other driver for her insurance number, just to be safe. She "couldn't remember" who her insurance was with. That made me nervous. Anyway I got her name and phone number. When I got home I looked closer and really couldn't see any damage, but yikes, not even 800 miles on it! I was on the phone processing a claim (just in case) when Erika came home from school. She looked a little shaken up -- I figured she just had a bad day. After I got off the phone I asked her how her day was. She told she almost was hit by a car walking home. Apparently she didn't look hard enough and missed the car coming. The car honked at her and screeched on the brakes. I guess it missed her by inches! Made my "accident" seem very minor. Hope tomorrow is a better day!!!

Amanda
11/20/03
Hey Donna~ I've been working on the railroad, ALL THE LIVE-LONG DAY. Oh, and Tristen is already picking out what pajamas to wear when she spends the night. For everyone else we haven't told yet, we will be in Lincoln Monday December 22 (maybe 21st) through Sunday January 4th. We will leave Nebraska early the morning of the 4th.

Amanda
11/19/03
Donna yes Ryans mom overcooks the PREcooked ham, and it is like jerky, hence why Ryan likes it dry and overcooked. Ryan has WAY to many food fears, phobias and rules from his childhood. I have to have peas with spagetti, that's a childhood thing.

Amanda
11/19/03
Ready for a coincidental story?? OK. Last week in class I see a girl wearing a Husker shirt. I didn't say anything to her then but vowed to before finals. Today I asked her if she was from Nebraska and she said she wasn't but her sister went to school there, and her parents were from there and her grandparents stil live there. So we talked about the school, the weather, yada, yada, yada until I get to talking about Tristen in school and tell her Tristen goes to Kidwell, that we live in Iowa Park (remember Iowa Park is a small town 20 minutes from Wichita Falls, which is where everything is at, the school I go to, the base, the mall etc.). And she tells me she lives in Iowa Park, and she asks me where we live and I tell her on Cornelia, and she said, oh yeah, someone told her there were some Nebraskans living on Cornelia. I'm amazed at this point at what a small world it is, and tell her another coincidental story of a pizza delivery boy about a year ago (from none other than Tristen's famed Ken's Pizza, that is in Iowa Park) that delivered to our house wearing a Nebraska hat and he tells us his parents are from there. Then, the girl in my class tells me thats her freakin' brother! I about fell out of my chair. I'm not used to these small town coincidences. This one was just too freaky. Isn't it amazing you can sit right behind someone and have so much in common and maybe never know it!

Donna
11/19/03
I'm all for spiral cut ham, too--but I don't know why it has to be overcooked. Ryan is that how you had it growing up? Someone on the bus this morning was talking about a friend that grew up on instant mashed potatoes. So that's all they want for the holiday meals--won't even try the real stuff. Can you imagine?

We're having a chili contest at work today. There are 11 entries and those not cooking chili bring in filler food. If you want to be a judge you have to bring in a canned food for the local food pantry. Someone brought in cinnamon rolls and I brought in carrots. That's another weird food thing--chili has to be served with carrots and cinnamon rolls. I think that's because they always served them together on school lunches. I'm getting hungry.

Gary
11/19/03
The Lincoln lights are not merely up, they are all on: Santas and snowmen everywhere, and those big candles going up the sides of the Cornhusker Hotel -- which I always liked, but still... And hey, I'm as big a fan of Christmas as they come; but when you start it too early, the effect gets kind of watered down. Then again, as Lindsey pointed out, it's a shorter Christmas season this year with Thanksgiving coming so late. Oh and P.S.: I totally support Ryan's overcooked spiral ham. Those things are deeee-licious!

Amanda
11/19/03
Tristen had her 1st grade program at school last night. It was about safety. It was very cute. Tristen was excited. She asked if she was going to get flowers afterwards, like with dance. She only has a two day week next week, which is nice, they have off Wednesday too, which is smart, because if anyone travels, chances are they will miss that day anyway. I have school of course, but Ryan is taking the day off. For Thanksgiving we got a turkey and Ryan's dumb spiral ham (I only say dumb because he has to have it, no matter how much other food we have, and it has to be overcooked, weird, yes), and I need to get the rest of the stuff, today maybe tomorrow. No room in the fridge just yet. I bet that turkey needs to come out today to thaw. Its a biggun, my mom, Sean, Shelby and Grandma Barber are coming for that weekend. And yes Gary it is early for lights, but my school has had its lights up all year (understandable, its a lot) BUT they do a huge display on the front lawn of the administration building and as soon as Halloween was over it started getting set up. I don't think it's lit up yet, but still... It annoys me that Thanksgiving gets passed over. I was looking for some Thanksgiving placemats, and nothing, all Christmas! That's all I know, just trying to spark some conversation!

Lindsey
11/19/03
Yeah but we are only about 36 days away from Christmas!

Gary
11/18/03
Wow, I just now drove through downtown Lincoln on my way home and was surprised to see that all the Christmas lights are up already! We're still more than a week from Thanksgiving, aren't we...?

Lindsey
11/18/03
Hey everyone! Yea it has been pretty quiet! What's everyone doing for Thanksgiving?

Amanda
11/18/03
Helloooo.... Is anyone out there?????

I know! It's really quiet in here. Though if you look at some of the old newsletter pages, sometimes weeks would go by with no items. Fortunately Lindsey is keeping the reviews page alive. Thanks, Lindsey! I'll be writing a review myself soon, of the new Simpsons "Hit & Run" game. (Here's a preview: Fantastic!) --Gary

Well this quiz was better, I scored a 77%, but not good enough to beat Lindsey. My answer for what Phoebe found in the pop can should have been counted right--I was really close. The last five or so questions just had a word, and that was confusing, but I suppose it meant who said it or who was it about? I got them all right, but wasn't sure when I was taking the quiz.

Yup, that's the idea: You hear "Unagi" and who do you think of? As for "close" answers, this quiz format isn't too smart about that. If the correct answer is "elephant," it will count "elephants" or "an elephant" wrong. Sorry about that, but it's a limitation I can't fix. So if your answer was close in that way, by all means give yourself credit! --Gary

Lindsey
11/13/03
I got a 23 out of 25 on this quiz. I missed what Phoebe found in a coke can and what movie made Joey homesick. I only missed 1 last time but this time 2. Do I still hold my title?

You do so far! (You're the first to report.) And just to be clear, the question said what TV show made Joey homesick, not movie. --Gary

Donna
11/13/03
Yes, but did you know that 40% of Americans are at or below poverty level right now? Most are children that go to bed hungry every night. What's more, tens of thousands are losing their jobs every month. I never get a cost of living raise and have been told for the last 3 years no chance of raise, sorry. But at least I have a job. Good ol' Dubya. Our political analyst spoke yesterday about the likelihood of Bush being re-elected. I didn't hear him speak so I don't know the details, but it's a scary thought.

Amanda
11/13/03
And at our school, tuition went up in the middle of the year, which isn't fair, and yet the school just received a million dollar donation. Granted they are doing something about mechanical engineering or something with the money, but it upset me just a bit. One of my professors was talking to us about it, asking how we felt about the tuition hike and all, seeing if we thought we would see a higher level of education and services brought to us with the higher bill we will pay. He said, I can't teach you any better, that will be the same, and yet he won't be getting a raise either. And he is like you Gary, he said he doesn't need the money like some may, he is OK, but what about those people just starting out that need the annual raises just to make it. It's not all the schools fault, it's the goverment too for cutting school budgets to NOTHING. And Gary, in reference to the "high heat costs" HELLO, it's NEBRASKA! Always has been. Nothing changed. Same here, last summer we cut down to 4 day weeks, longer time in class those 4 days because of high electricity bills due to the A/C (so they could shut it all down for each 3 day weekend). HELLO it's TEXAS! It's hot here, nothing new. Same with Ryan, the military already gets paid CRAP and now they are all under a lot more stress and strain and low morale, and they will get nothing extra. What in the world happened in the last 22 months? Oh yeah, Dubya.

Amen to all of the above! :-) --Gary

A few days ago, the University announced a huge building program, mostly for the athletic department -- $65 million for a 5,000-seat expansion of the Stadium, new giant Husker-Vision screens, a brand-new "Tom & Nancy Osborne Athletic Complex," an indoor practice facility, weight training facility, and who knows what else -- and in today's Daily Nebraskan, a front page story stated that University employees will probably not receive even a measly 1.75% cost-of-living pay raise this year. In the article, the Chancellor talked about "cash flow shortages" and "high heat costs" contributing to the problem. "We're still trying to see if we can manage something, but it's not going to be easy," he said; "It's very unlikely." Yeah, I know there are lots of people in the world who don't even have jobs, let alone cost-of-living raises, but... can somebody explain this to me??

Gary

You say, and I obey! Here's a new Friends quiz! I'll leave it up over the weekend. (Seinfeld and other quizzes are still in the future.)

Amanda
11/12/03
Seinfeld quiz... I would love that! I also would love Seinfeld DVD's of their seasons, but apparently that won't happen. I don't get it...

Lindsey
11/12/03
No I would gladly take another Friend's Quiz! :)

Donna
11/12/03
How about another Friends quiz? I know the show better than my score indicates. I'd like a rematch. And then we can see if Lindsey can hold her title. Unless she's too scared.

Gary
11/12/03
Here are the Friends Quiz answers. Thanks for playing, everybody! Any suggestions for another? Harry Potter? Lord of the Rings (movie)? Jay-Jay the Jet Plane? Let me know. :-)

Karen
11/12/03
Windy, windy, windy, have to hold on to something or blow away. On the plus side, we no longer have to rake the front yard. Brent hooked up the fax machine last night, so we now have a working fax, if anyone wants to send something. Emily and Erika are both taking level tests all week at school. Not enjoying that at all! Just two more weeks until turkey day -- what are everybodys plans? We are staying home (anyone who would like to join us is welcome).
I didn't do the Friends quiz, we so rarely watch it, I knew I wouldn't know most of the answers. I'm sure Sam would ace the Buffy quiz, don't think I ever watched that show. Watching About Schmidt now -- good movie, with lots of Nebraska sites....

Gary
11/12/03
I'll post the Friends answers sometime this afternoon, for those that got less than perfect scores. Check back!

Hmmmmm, Sam, a Buffy quiz, eh...? I could make one, but I think you and I might be the only ones who would take it. Any other Buffy fans out there??

BTW, Sam, where's your report on the robot-baby weekend???? :-)

Ryan
11/11/03
Well after pondering for an hour. I came up with 10 out of 20. I did some research and was able to get within 18 out of 20. But the cat hissing and what Chandler wanted to change his name to were hard. Well I thought I knew a lot about Friends. Good Job Linz.

Samantha
11/11/03
Hello all!! Well I took the Friends Quiz and I got 6 out of 20!!! Thats just no good but hey if it was a Buffy Quiz I would be the best. Bye bye for now!!

Amanda
11/11/03
If anyone knows Tiny Dancer, or hissing cat message e mail me, its driving us nuts!

Donna
11/11/03
I thought I knew all there was to know about Friends, but sadly I only scored 10 out of 20, too. However, one was counted wrong that I know was right. "Well, I guess I'm going to..." Where Chandler goes to get away from Janice. I did not know the tiny dancer either.
What is the name of Phoebe's sister? Who doesn't like ice cream? What does Rachel think her cat is saying? Central Perk doors open in or out? Argh, they were too hard. Just ask me stuff I know.

Congratulations Lindsey, that was hard!!!

As for "where Chandler goes," you might have spelled it wrong...? Capitalization doesn't matter, but spelling does. Also, for the fill-in-the-blank answers, don't put them in "quotes." --Gary

Grandma
11/11/03
I got 18 right in the Friend's quiz, can't remember the "Tiny Dancer" episode and don't know what Chandler called the game he invented to give money to Joey. Anyway that is knowing too much. Good for you Linz!!

Gary
11/11/03
We had a temporary email outage here today. It is now fixed, but some people are complaining about having lost some email during the down-time. So if any of you sent in something for the webpage today (Tuesday) between 9 am and 1 pm you'll have to send it in again because it never got here. Sorry!

Paul
11/10/03
Well I thought I knew more about friends than I do.
I scored a 10 out of 20. My congrats to Linz and anyone else who scores more than ten.

Lindsey
11/10/03
I got a 19 out of 20 on the friends quiz. I could not get who Phoebe thought "Tiny Dancer" was about!

Wowza! You're the champ so far! (also the only one so far...) Oh hey, Lindsey, did you ever get the crawl to work? I sent you an email on how to fix it last week. Let me know! --Gary

Gary
11/10/03
The Friends Quiz is up! Twenty questions designed to separate the real Friends-heads from the ...not. The quiz will give you your score right away, so we're on the honor system here: You'll have to come back to the newsletter page and report on how you did. Good luck!

Too bad you Texans and Iowans don't get Bravo...it has lots of really good stuff. US Grant was from Ohio and the Ohio Historical Society has lots of stuff on him too, but it sounds as though you've got that paper in hand. I think he died before he ever got to live in his house in Galena. It got all the way to 46 today -- a heat wave! The Gophers beat Wisconsin to claim the Paul Bunyan Ax, they beat Wis. with only 1 second left...exciting game. The Vikings have lost the last 3 games after a fantastic start. Hope the Huskers are up for their final games. Did you know that the l6 lunch ladies from Minnesota who won the $40 million lottery work for the high school in some little town whose school nickname is the Huskers? Headlines were like "Husker Millionaires" etc.

Karen
11/9/03
It isn't just Texas, we don't get Bravo in Iowa either.

Amanda
11/9/03
We would love to watch the Inside Actors Studio, HOWEVER Bravo must be too "new age" for Texan or something. We dont get that channel. We discovered that when Queer Eye piqued our interest.

Dang, too bad. As if Bush wasn't enough, that's another mark against TX! And speaking of Queer Eye, their new episodes begin on the 18th (Tuesday); and on the preceding Sunday (the 16th, a week from today) they're having a Queer Eye marathon: running all the episodes back to back. --Gary

Gary
11/9/03
Hey "Simpsons" fans: Tune into "Inside the Actors Studio" tonight (Sunday) to see the entire Simpsons cast interviewed for an hour. I caught it several months ago when it was first broadcast, and it's great. Very funny, and lots of inside stuff about the show. It's on Bravo at 7 pm (which conflicts with the actual Simpsons on Fox...), and replayed again at 11. Set your VCRs!

Ryan
11/8/03
Hooha!!! Huskers. Had a good day today. It was nice and rainy all day. Watched the game and wished we were home because of how much cold weather clothes everyone had on. Looking foward to X-mas. Talk to everyone tomorrow.

Amanda
11/7/03
Here is an interesting site on Grant. I dug in and started the paper tonight, and it is going well. Already have 5 pages, almost 6, need to slim it down (no more than 5), and I was afraid I wouldn't have enough! Anyhow, this page highlights his things while in office, the things I needed, and I seemed to have peaked the interest of some about Grant. Read on, read on....

Amanda
11/7/03
Tomorrow (11/8) is the last day to order from Tristen's sale! I have to have the order by about 4 PM, so if you want anything let me know now. Thanks to those of you who ordered. She made it to $259! She sold 50 items, and our troop gets 50 cents for each item (kind of a rip off compared to cookies, can't wait for that!) so the troop will get $25 from her sale! Not too bad! She got 6 different prizes including the patch, so she is very happy with the results so far. She is just $41 off from another prize, the $300 level, but she doesn't even care! Again, thanks to all of you!!!!

Emily
11/7/03
Hey everybody! Well Erika had her thing for DARE today, and i went to pre school with mom, it was fun. They made Turkey feathers, paper chains, music notes, and practiced writing 1s and 2s. Then we went to eat at Culvers, that was very good!

Mmmmmmmm, Culvers..... --Gary

Donna
11/6/03
Didn't Grant come up with the word lobbyist? These were special interest people hanging around the lobby of the hotel wanting to talk to him about changing laws and so he called them lobbyists. I don't think he was particularly fond of them so this was not necessarily a compliment when I used it.

I can't confirm it was Grant (it does sound right), though I do know the hotel: The Willard! A distinguished old hotel just a few blocks from the White House. Lincoln stayed there at least once, as have almost all the greats from his time forward. It was cool to walk through the lobby, the dining room and the bar and imagine all the meetings and conversations that must have taken place there. --Gary

Karen
11/6/03
Cold, cold here today, still no snow, just a few flakes in the air. Got to 15 last night and a "high" of 30 today -- but I'm not complaining. Going to be quiet day here. Brent is taking a couple of vacation days. Erika has today and tomorrow off, because of conferences. Emily had just tomorrow off. I have preschool tomorrow and Emily is coming along to help out. Erika gets to go to DARE lock-in. Should have fun, lots of activities planned. Amanda, I don't whole a whole lot about U S Grant when he was prez, but when we lived in Dubuque we often went to Galena, which is his home town. We even toured his home a couple of times. It was a cool town, still looked very much like it did in the 1850's.
I hope Emily's "fiesta" goes better than the one the class had last year (before Emily was in Spanish). All the kids in the class started to launch about an hour later and none them came to class the next day.....

Eewwww... You're not supposed to drink the water, you know. :-) Cold here too, and this morning another winter-time first: Had to scrape my windshield! --Gary

P.S. About Grant: I understand his real name was Hiram Ulysses Grant, but he changed it to Ulysses Simpson because he didn't like the initials 'HUG' -- don't know if that's true or not. Mark Twain came to be a good friend of his. At the end of his life, Grant was impoverished and dying of cancer. Twain urged him to write his memoirs and arranged for his publishing firm to publish them. Grant revealed, late in life, a great writing talent: His book was hugely popular and it made his family wealthy. He died just a few months after finishing it. Here's a good-looking website I just turned up.

Amanda
11/5/03
It finally got cold here today. Rainy, cloudy, dreary and 45ish all day. It was nice. We made chili for dinner. And I'M not having a "fiesta" in Spanish. La clase de espanol es muy malo! I have my third test on Friday and I am almost lost in that class. We are learning present progressive, direct objects, preterites, and who knows what else. I don't even know what those things are in English! And I am about ready to write my 5 page paper on Ulysses S. Grant. But it is only on his presidency, his successes and failures. NOT war hero stuff or Civil War stuff. So if anyone knows anything pass it on this way. Picking out classes for next semester already, and they are making me pick a minor now! Sheesh, I just settled on a major. Next month when I finish this semester I will be at 75 hours, officially the middle of my junior year. 3 semesters left!! Woohoo! And I am searching (successfully) for a job for the Christmas. I got hired at 3 places! Im settling with two. I turned down Target and stuck with Chili's and Bath & Body Works. Before you ask if I am crazy, 2 jobs, school, life etc. let me explain. I don't know if Bath & Body Works will work out. It will be very limited hours because there are SO many people that they hire for Christmas. Literally MAYBE once a week, or less. BUT, 30% discount, and 20% at Victoria's Secret, Limited, Express, and some other places I can't remember. Chili's will be the $ maker. Tips baby...

Emily
11/5/03
Hey everybody!
It has been FREEZING here!!! I would much rather be in Texas!!
Well Erika doesnt have school on Thursday or Friday, and I dont have school on Friday, so I am going to go to pre school with mom. And tomorrow we are having a 'fiesta' in spanish, so we wont be doing much this week.
Tristen and Teghan look soo cute in their halloween costumes!! sasha too

Gary

Wow, suddenly it's winter! Heard my first "wind chill" of the season today -- right now it's 29, with a wind chill of 19. Brrrr! (The Fargo webcam has snow on the ground.)

Get ready, all you "Friends" fans: I'll be putting up the "Friends Quiz" next week. Winner gets an all-expenses-paid shopping trip to the mall of your choice!* So check back next week.

And speaking of next week, we're only 6 days away from "The Simpsons: Hit & Run" (for the PC), only 9 days away from "Master and Commander" with Russell Crowe, only 13 days away from the "Two Towers" Extended Version, only 42 days away from "Return of the King," and only 50 days til Christmas! Woo-hoo! It's a great time to be alive! :-)

*Winner must supply shopping expenses and own transportation.

Boy I wish I was home to be in that kind of weather. We have been breaking a bunch of records down here for the highs. Today it was supposed to reach 83 degrees and it felt like it got up to 87. This is just nuts. I know that Texas is hot but this is ridiculous!!! Bring on the cold weather. Me and Amanda haven't decided to have the air or the heat on. It keeps switching!!!! Thank you for putting in orders for Tristen's Girl Scout Sale. After "beating the street" (only 7 houses) she has made $200.00 and we haven't put our order in yet. She is excited and wants to go to more houses. Its going to her head. She has already commissioned me to build a lemonade stand for the spring. Is there such thing as entrepreneur's anonymous?

We had a little taste of winter here today. Woke up about 2 am to hail and rain. Kept sleeting with a mixture of rain and a few flakes of snow. If you look around you can see some patches of snow on the grass.

Seeing your breath? Oy! It's 75 here, at 7 PM!! I hate TexAS.

We don't have snow here but we have rain-thunder showers several times today and my gauge has about 1.75 inches in it. Glad it was rain as that would be about 10 inches in snow!! Pretty chilly too, just took garbage out and could see my breath. Winter's comin'.

I went to the webcams today to see if I could get a glimpse of snow in Minneapolis since it is 82 here right now, but the webcam appears to be stuck on October 19th.

Man, those MPLS cams are the flakiest! There are only a few up there, and none of them are reliable. I'll put the Mississippi River cam back up (though it shows no snow right now, so I don't know if that's a current image either!). Here it is! --Gary

Hey Livy I love your costume. That was some really cool hair. I went as a Husker fan. Amanda went as a mother of 2. We had a lot of fun and the next morning was nice too. Tristen and Teghan slept in late which meant that me and Amanda were able to sleep in. Me and Amanda were not impressed with the Huskers today. Lord seemed to keep the ball too long and it didnt help we played Texas on their field. Although we don't care for OU we have to give it the the Sooners they played an awesome game against OSU.

It was a good night. The girls got loads of stuff, Teghan figured out the concept in about 4 houses. Tristen got an award for "cutest" costume at the party we went to after trick or treating, and Tristen only slipped in the shoes three time. Tristen is already planning her costume next year!
